01.02.08: Rockin' with Dick Clark?

I have never really been a fan of New Year's Eve. Usually, I just stay home and have an uneventful ushering in of the new year. So, that's what I did this year. I thought I would tune into Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve party and watch the ball drop, blah, blah, blah.

To my surprise, there was Dick Clark pretty much hosting the whole event. I was so glad to see he is still up and around and healthy and well after his debilitating stroke. But I don't think there was a person watching whose jaw didn't drop a little that he decided to host so much of his show and do the countdown to the new year. Perhaps 2008 will be the last time we will see Dick Clark usher in any new year. Maybe it's time for him to really, really pass the torch to someone else.

Dick Clark has done so much for all of us who love and appreciate music and the roots of rock and roll. He will never be forgotten for all his contributions to this business. In the words of Buddy Holly......Not Fade Away.

I also remember

I can remember Saturdays in the 50's and 60's watching Bandstand with Dick Clark. He is an Rock and Roll icon much like Dick Biondi down in Chicago. But watching New Years Eve and seeing Dick and it seemed that he was struggling to say what he wanted to say, I think it also is time for him to past the torch to someone else. He could still be there and have a few moments but it is time to move on.
