1/29/08 Winter Storms
|
I grew up in a small town in SW Wisconsin called Potosi. All through elementary school and high school during winter, we always hoped for snow days. I mean, which kid didn't hope for snow days? And when we were at school, the first sign of it starting to snow, our attention was turned from doodling on our desks to if we were gonna get out early!
Luckily, Potosi was one of the first towns in the area to let out early and to cancel. That was due to the majority of students that lived in the country, and busses had to drive far distances on a lot of side roads to kids houses.
I remember one time, we got out early, and the bus I was on got stuck in the middle of nowhere trying to turn around from dropping a student off at her home. It was a disaster. I was looking forward to going home and being home in time to watch the cartoons at 3:00 on TV. Instead, I'm standed on a bus in the middle of nowhere waiting for our parents to come pick us up. Luckily, the house that we got stuck by was the elementary school art teacher. She had all of our contact information and called our parents. It all worked out in the end.
Now, I like winter storms. As long as I don't get caught driving in them. I like just sitting at home in my big recliner and just relaxing, knowing that i'm excluded from the storm going on outside. |
