11/1/07 Confiscated Loot

My second blog! How exiting again! I wonder when I will stop counting what number blog I’m on? The funny thing about a blog is in fact, the word “blog” I type these first in Microsoft Word, and apparently ol’ Billy Gates hasn’t put “blog” into his spell checker as an expectable word yet because every time I type “blog” it get’s underlined red. Get with it Billy!!

So, today’s topic is on airlines and security. Not the serious part of it, but the fun part. I have not had any experiences on airplanes since 9/11, so I am a little in the dark on this, but I’ve learned that there is a lot of personal items that get confiscated at security checkpoints. A LOT. And now you can buy that stuff online with auctions, some of which stemming from the state’s .gov website!

Every airport is different with the items that get confiscated. At the airport in Louisville, Kentucky, they confiscate mini baseball bats bought as souvenirs at the Louisville Slugger Museum. About 500 of them actually. And you can buy them on Ebay (Seller ID is: kysurplus) And that is just one little item at one airport! There is all kinds of stuff for sale. Some on ebay, some on government websites. Selling Swiss army knifes by the pound! Twenty five pounds of them for $250! Crazy! Hammers for three bucks, cordless drills for ten bucks, and that isn’t even a start!

I understand that you can’t bring knives, and guns, and nail files and everything on the plane. And I can even understand the miniature baseball bats. But that just left about 500 kids without a souvenir that cost their parents ten dollars. I think that if they cannot carry this stuff onto an airplane, they should have the option of mailing to themselves or whoever it’s for then. Just not confiscating it and selling it on Ebay. Of course, they would have to cover the cost of shipping. And if they don’t want that option, then put it up for auction.

Here is the link to visit for all the information on this stuff! Enjoy, I hope you find good deals!
