12/10/07 Parking Citations
|
This morning as I started up my car to drive into work, I noticed this light blue shiny piece of paper hanging out of an envelope jammed in between my drivers side windshield wiper and my windshield. It was a $20.00 parking citation from the City of Madison. I turned around, and cars parked along the whole street had parking citations just like mine attatched to their windshield wipers. I'm not saying that it was put there unlawfully. The only signs that are even close to being posted are "No Parking Here To Corner" & "2 Hour Parking 8AM-6PM" on my street. I couldn't figure out why I had gotten a ticket at 2:54AM with two hour parking. This is my first winter living in the city of Madison. Which means that this is the first year of my life dealing with this so called "alternate side parking".
After consulting the management of my apartment complex, I learned that beginning sometime in November, and up to sometime in March, there is alternate side parking. I was not aware of this. I had heard about "Snow Emergencies" Which, I then assumed that during a "snow emergency" alternate side parking would be enforced. I understood that. Which was not the case. After consulting co-workers about this issue, I found out that alternate side parking does not include downtown or people who live along the isthmus. And during a snow emergency, it is enforeced everywhere.
Which is perfectly fine, but a nice warning would have been nice. Some knowledge of the alternate side parking would have helped. I'm sure there are hundreds of laws that you, nor myself have any knowledge about that we could get ticketed for. Parking more than 12 inches away from a curb is ticketable. I could go on and on.
I guess I should have read up on the laws of the City before moving into town. I should have also read up on the horrible cable services this town has to offer too. Maybe I would have thought twice before moving into town.
I will pay the $20.00 ticket. Now I know. And that is my latest rant. Go City Of Madison!!! |
