2/07/08 Pool & Change

Another wednesday night pool league...that didn't happen. It was understandable last night. I wouldn't have wanted to drive any more than I had to in this weather. We have a make-up date for tomorrow!
Now, the sentimental serious side of Gabe Buch...
The other thing I wanted to blog about today is change. Not quarters and nickels or pennies. But change in people. Is it really possible to think that somebody cannot change? I guess it really depends on what that person is changing.
I'm an avid House fan. Actually it is my favorite show on TV. In a brand new episode on Tuesday he said something on the lines of how he doesn't believe that somebody can change. He was referring to one of his patients that used to be a record producer that was into sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. Now his patient is a hisidic jew. House refused to believe she still wasn't on drugs. He doesn't believe people can change. House went on to say that an alcoholic can go to AA and stop drinking, if he lives long enough to get through it.
But I guess by that time in an alcoholics life he has already done the damage. He has already hurt his family, and friends, and his wife. The damage has been done. So in reality, even though an alcoholic can change, does it really matter?
A year ago, I didn't believe in change. Polititians can't change. They are all the same, and will never be able to change. There are a lot of people like that in the world. An obese person can lose hundreds of pounds, but in their minds, will they ever be skinny? But I am blogging today, to say one thing. I know first hand that people can change. Somebody can change as an individual. Change into a better person. It's going back an correcting the wrong doing that makes change real. |
