4/21/08 Hate Crimes
|
I would like to tackle a serious topic today. Hate Crimes. I just seen a story on the news of a hate crime. First of all. What makes a hate crime different than a normal crime? I think it comes down to racism. An ultimate goal that this country has is to eliminate racism, right? I believe that racism has decreased over the last 10...20...30 years? I do. But it will never be eliminated because our government won't let it happen.
Example-- Hate Crimes! If a white man kills another white man, it is murder. A crime. If a white man kills a black man. It's a hate crime. Why aren't both of them a hate crime? I'm sure the white man didn't kill the other white man out of love. By accident maybe? If a black man kills a white man, is it a hate crime? If a man catches his wife with another man, and kills him, then himself, is that a hate crime? I'm sure he did everything out of hate and anger. No, it isn't. Aren't all serious crimes "hate crimes"? Should the punishment be different? I don't think so.
I'm not talking about theft. Well, maybe. Somebody could steal from somebody because they don't like them. I don't think "hate crime" should even be a term recognized by the court system. A crime is a crime no matter how you look at it. Eliminate the term. It's just keeping this country from being racism free.
And this weather is making me veddy happy! It's about time we can do outdoor activities without freezing! |
