I had been so worried about my tulips, that I started to try to dig them out.  There was a sheet of ice under a 3 foot pile of snow.  (They are planted in an area that is shady most of the year.)  I got as much snow off of the ice as I could, and hoped that the ice would melt, or the tulips would just miraculously come up through the ice.  To my amazement, they have started to come up through the ice!  These are pictures I took with my phone.  How did that group on the bottom make it through!  The one on the top, you can see the wood chips and dirt, but the bottom is pure snow and ice.
