On second thought, pay no attention to me. I can't even detect lip-synching anymore!
As we were discussing the all-important topic of Super Bowl commercials this morning, weighing in with our very important opinions of the relative worth of Will Ferrell's cross-promotion of his new movie within the context of a Bud Light ad, I off-handedly mentioned how much I enjoyed Jordin Sparks' singing of the National Anthem.
"Well, you know she lip-synched it, Fletch," said Dana. "She did?" said I with genuine incredulity. "Yes," Adam chimed in a bit too emphatically, choosing not to add the "you moron" tag that he was thinking. And then they showed me the video and I saw the proof.
I was dumbfounded.
Not that she lip-synched it, but rather that she lip-synched it and I didn't know it! So what's the big deal? Lots of Sparks' predecessors have done the same, and I know it too. But being in the "music business" as I am and having spent countless hours damaging my hearing at live concerts I've gotten pretty good at spotting the fakes. But I totally missed this one.
Is the ability to spot lip-synchers one of those things that "goes" when you get old? Maybe there's a little colored pill for that....
