My man-crush on Bo Ryan, explained.
I love Badger basketball, always have, but that's not why I love Bo Ryan.
I love it that the Badgers won the Big Ten title, plus the conference tourney title, and are now playing in the Sweet 16. But that's not why I love Bo Ryan, either.
And it's certainly not because Bo is a natty dresser and an all-around pretty good-lookin' dude, which of course he is.
While all of those things swirl around my man-crush for Bo, I've finally figured out what really makes my heart sing for him (violins, please)...... His players have thoroughly, overwhelmingly, and completely bought into him.
There, I said it. They've bought into him.
I know, you think, "huh, that's it? That's the big thing that makes your heart go boom for Bo?"
Yup.
As all fans know, Bo's players have overdosed on the Bo Kool-Aid since day 1. Every one of them not only repeats the Bo mantras (team game, believe in the system, yadda yadda), but also plays like he believes the mantras, and understands the mantras, and would tattoo the mantras on their arms if Bo would approve (probably wouldn't).
Bo Ryan has achieved what very few coaches, bosses, fathers, presidents, even scout leaders every achieve- total mind meld with his players. When he speaks, they listen, and then they do!
Imagine how awesome that would be in your life (or mine)....
(You , or in this case, Me): "So kids, the main reason we don't want to eat snacks in the family room is because when you leave dirty plates on the floor, it attracts ants, and that's gross."
(Kids, yours or mine): "OK, Dad, we get it! That is GREAT advice, an EXCELLENT PLAN!! We will do just exactly as you have taught us and we will not eat snacks in the family room!!!"
And then it would never happen again, if you or I were Bo Ryan.
So that's it, plain and simple. The man's so good he could probably get Minnesota fans to come shovel our sidewalks. Hey, that's an idea.....
