Mr. Crabby Pants says....
I count Mike Mahnke, pictured above, as a long time friend and occasional show contributor. You've probably heard him on the air doing vacation guest hosting, his Badgerman reports during football season, or on the PA at Camp Randall or the Kohl Center.
Recently Mike took on an added duty on Fletch In The Morning as designated crotchety guy Mr. Crabby Pants.
Mike claims that, on Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers' then three-game losing streak (which is now five) set him off and he felt that the only way he could vent would be to do it on the air on WOLX as Mr. Crabby Pants. While I was entirely open to the idea, figuring that Mr. Crabby Pants would probably represent the frustrations of other countless crabby people, I suspected that this "new" Mr. Crabby Pants character wasn't all that.... new. And here's my confirmation, in an e-mail this morning from Mike:
"Heard on Adam’s news this morning that some namby-pamby is complaining about barracks conditions at Ft. McCoy.
I stayed at Ft. McCoy in those WWII barracks for over 15 years while in the Reserves. Actually had to shovel coal into the furnace through outside doors on winter mornings – and this was in the 1980’s, not the 1940’s.
Yeah, the conditions were deplorable in some buildings (very few, actually), but it beat having to sleep in a tent ...in the woods...in below zero conditions.
Someone should tell whoever is whining about this to “man up”.. and that someone is Mr. Crabby Pants.
Maybe we should start a “CraBlog” - believe me, I have enough daily material to crab about!"
