Popcorn And A Movie With Adam 10,000 BC
Rated PG-13 - 1h49 Reviewed 3.13.08
If you take out some of the blatant logical errors and throw reality out the window, 10,000 BC still won’t be a great movie.
The prehistoric “epic” revolves around a group of Wooly Mammoth hunters. One of them is the chosen one, who is destined lead a revolution against captors who have enslaved part of his tribe and other tribes.
First the good. The digital effects are impressive, the scenery was notable and some of the battles were attention-grabbing. Even put together, they don’t make the film.
Now the bad. The acting was mediocre, the bad guys were milk toast and a lot of the dialogue is corny. I should also make note of the historical liberties that were taken by the director.
1: The hunter tribe speaks in plain English (remember this is 10,000 BC). 2: Its supposedly set in Mesopotamia, while the pyramids were being built, yet somehow Wooly Mammoths, extremely large Saber Tooth Tigers and dinosaurs were hanging out. 3: Caveman like, wooden spear wielding tribes were facing off with marauders that carried superior metalwork weapons and rode on horseback. I’m pretty sure metal weapons didn’t come along until much later, an even if it was there, shouldn’t the tribes have some knowledge of it?
I would imagine that pre-teen boys might enjoy the action, as long as they don’t mind having gross historical inaccuracies thrown at them. Then again, if you like grimy girls in dreadlocks, you may enjoy it.
