Popcorn And A Movie With Adam
Drillbit Taylor

Rated PG-13 - 1h42
Reviewed 3.24.08

Sorry, but this drill bit is dull.

Drillbit Taylor is about three high school freshman who hire a discount bodyguard to protect them from the school bully. It’s also about how Hollywood has allowed itself to produce more garbage from the crap machine. This film apparently was sitting on the shelf, and was pulled off thanks to the success of Seth Rogen, who gets writing credits and Judd Apatow, who gets directing credits.

Owen Wilson (Drillbit) plays a homeless army deserter. The idea of the boys befriending him as their bodyguard and mentor may have made an interesting film, but instead we have a series of not-exactly-funny ideas that get strung together, lacking focus.

On top of that, most of the jokes are yawners. It’s very similar to the plot of Superbad (also Rogan’s work), but very watered down for a PG-13 rating.

I can imagine that there is an audience of 10-year old boys that may find some of Drillbit Taylor very funny, but that’s just because they don’t know any better. Also, I know the run time says its only 102 minutes long, but it’s a really long 102 minutes.

Second Opinion: My friend Jonathan agreed that we wasted our time.
