Popcorn And A Movie With Adam Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
Rated R - 1h42 Reviewed 4.28.08
Harold and Kumar (John Cho & Kal Penn) deliver what the title of their new movie promises, but it’s a different story when it comes to entertainment.
The originality of the baked pair’s former flick is gone from this sequel. In the former, the stoned duo are in search of a snack to quell their munchies. This time, they’re not in search of a bigger buzz, but rather romance.
The second time around, there’s still a lot of crass humor about stereotypes, but again, it wasn’t new. The storyline was a bit predictable and scenes that weren’t seemed like scattered thoughts. (Perhaps the victim of too many toked-up late night script writing sessions.)
A racist and over zealous Homeland Security agent (former The Daily Show correspondentRob Corddry) was flat and uninteresting. Considering he was the antagonist continually chasing after our “heroes,” it led to a lot of dull moments that could have been better.
On the flipside, I recall that the films from the original Harold and Kumar (Cheech and Chong) were never great movies, just a bunch of silly glass-eyed moments strung together. I guess every generation needs a new leader.
Maybe you need to be high to truly enjoy Harold & Kumar, but I always say if a movie can’t stand on its own ...... "uhhhhh, what was I saying?”
Second Opinion: My friend Jonathan agreed that there were few “high”lights and many burnt out jokes.
