Popcorn And A Movie With Adam Ironman
Rated PG-13 - 2h6 Reviewed 5.3.08
Cool superhero + interesting story = great summer blockbuster.
In Ironman, Robert Downey Jr. believably pulls off the role of Tony Stark, an egotistical genius engineer who has made his fortune by developing weapons. After being captured by a terrorist group who are using his weapons, Stark has a change of heart and decides use his technology to fight evil.
Ironman may have one the most credible supporting casts a superhero movie has ever seen. Stark’s assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), his Air Force buddy (Terrence Howard) and his arch rival Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) are all A-Listers. If this was something other than a comic book movie, combining that kind talent could easily lead to an Oscar.
Anther reason this is a solid film, is that Stark changes his attitude about weapons, but doesn’t change the fact that he’s still an egotistical big head. It makes his character more authentic.
Even when you’re not looking at the above par special effects, you’re still enjoying the strong storyline. If this is what Hollywood has in store for us this summer, it’s going to be an entertaining year.
Second Opinion: My girlfriend Vanessa usually doesn't like the action hero genre, but liked this one (mostly due to Robert Downey Jr. performance).
