Popcorn And A Movie With Adam Jumper
Rated PG-13 - 1h30 Reviewed 2.15.08
If you had a superpower, what would you do with it?
In new Hayden Christensen film Jumper, a man who discovers he can teleport, uses it for his own personal gain. Doesn’t sound very noble, does it?
Regardless, we are supposed to feel for the main character because we also find out that there are countless other Jumpers, all being chased by a group of people with endless resources called Palladins. The Paladins, led by Samuel L. Jackson have a centuries old beef with the jumpers, most likely over moral or religious reasons.
So, the chase is on. Christensen is on the run and its often visually pleasing, but his performance leaves you with an empty feeling. It felt like he was just running through his lines and there wasn’t much emotion behind them.
There are also a lot of logic errors. Paladins can stop a jumper from teleporting with a stun gun type device, but if this rival has been going on for years, what did they use before stun guns?
Try not to think about it. The filmmakers don’t want you to think too much either. Considering its so frigid outside, maybe the idea of teleporting from Madison to a sunny island isn’t such a bad idea.
