Popcorn And A Movie With Adam Semi Pro

Will Ferrell’s shtick still makes me laugh, but I didn’t see anything new this time around.
His latest, Semi-Pro is your typical underdog sports comedy. Set in the 70’s when the ABA tried to rival the NBA, Ferrell is the Owner/Coach/Player of the Flint Tropics. His basement dwelling team has to win games and put fans in the seats in order to be invited to the join the NBA. Woody Harelson actually provides some acting skills as the seasoned NBA vet, who joins the team and teaches them to play ball.
While it was an added treat to seem Ferrell take full advantage of the R rating, it doesn’t make this a hilarious film. Sometimes, the play on words like a tropical named team based out Flint, Michigan is as good as it gets. Most often, the punch lines are flatter than a concession stand soda.
On the positive side, comedian actor Andrew Daley, who plays a radio broadcaster, gets a good deal of the laughs.
Semi Pro only delivers intermittent laughs. If you really want the funny from Ferrell, go back and rent Elf or Anchorman.
