Popcorn And A Movie With Adam Shine A Light in IMAX
Rated PG-13 - 2h2 Reviewed 4.9.08
That sure felt like going a Stones concert.
Shine A Light was filmed in 2006 over two nights of shows at The Beacon Theater in New York City. Martin Scorsese manages to capture what most Rolling Stones fans see at the live shows; a good time.
Not only do you get two hours from a polished rock and roll band, you also get some cleverly placed stock footage about the band from when they were just young pups. The irony of the wrinkles of the live show, backed up to clips from the 60’s where reporters are asking the Stones how long they think they can keep playing will make you chuckle.
One of the several highlights is a performance of Muddy Water’s “Champaign and Reefer,” where Blues legend Buddy Guy joins the band. It’s a raunchy and raucous in celebrating sex, drugs and rock and roll.
Seeing it in IMAX also gives you a vantage point that most can only dream of in seeing The Rolling Stones live. From shots that sneak up behind Charlie Watts drum kit to a blurred set of hands clapping in front of you as you look up from the audience, you’re literally right there in the middle of the show.
Any Stones fan should take the time to see it on the extra big screen. It sure looks like Mick and the crew are still having fun.
