Popcorn And A Movie With Adam The Bucket List
Rated PG-13 - 1h37 Reviewed 1.21.08
I’ve never had cancer, but I really don’t think it’s the sometime jubilant experience that it’s made out to be in The Bucket List.
Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson star in the Rob Reiner film about two older gents who are diagnosed with cancer. They just happen to be placed in the same hospital room together and they form a bond. All the while, Freeman’s character forms a list of things to do before kicking the bucket (a.k.a. Bucket List.) Nicholson is rich and takes Freeman off on adventure around the world, knocking off items on the list.
The film follows the Rob Reiner formula of goofy (and often lame) jokes, warm-fuzzy moments and some kind of passionate heart felt speech at the end. In this case, Nicholson tediously jokes about the old ball-and-chain, while Freeman spurts out Jeopardy answers until Freeman teaches Nicholson a lesson about himself.
All in all, it was a bit wishy-washy with an ok finale.
By the way, haven’t we had enough of Morgan Freeman doing movie voice-overs? I love the guy, but enough already. Also, if he has to keep doing them, can we stop making the voice-overs details the story of some other white guy in the movie? How about we hear another character details the life and times of a Morgan Freeman character.
