Popcorn And A Movie With Adam
The Spiderwick Chronicles in IMAX

Rated PG - 1h37
Reviewed 2.18.08

Some good family fantasy fun is in your future with The Spiderwick Chronicles. Although the film is rated PG, this feels more like at PG-13 and you are hereby forewarned of some intense action that may freak out younger kids.

That being said, The Spiderwick Chronicles manages to achieve what several other kids fantasy films haven’t lately. It provides a story that’s easy to follow.

Mary-Louise Parker plays a divorced mother who inherits a home, and moves in with her three kids. Much like Alice In Wonderland found the cookie and potion, these kids find a book that says "do not read." Their childhood naiveté forces them to open the book, which is a door to a magical world of fairies and trolls that are invisible to the rest of us. The book allows the kids to see it all. The reason the book is kept a secret is because an evil troll, voiced by Nick Nolte, wants to use it to take over.

Try not to dive too deep into the meaning of anything, because it’ll serve you better as a lighthearted family film. Just remember, I warned you about the sometimes intense action.
