Popcorn And A Movie With Adam Untraceable
Rated R - 1h51 Reviewed 2.4.08
Instead of scaring us about technology, why don’t we learn to embrace it with a sense of responsibility?
That doesn’t seem to matter in the new Diane Lane cyber-thriller Untraceable. Instead, we are told that we should fear computers and all the freaks that live on the interwebs.
Lane plays a cyber crime busting FBI Agent that comes across a gruesome website that shows someone getting killed. The site is disturbing, yet intriguing because the more people who log in and watch, the quicker the victim dies. Unfortunately, they give away the bad guy way to early, diminishing the thrill of the chase.
The film does bring up several thought provoking topics. Online security, our media driven culture and our fascination with looking at things we barely can stomach, just to name a few.
Too bad it doesn’t go much deeper than giving them a quick glance.
