Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights - Hollywood to the Heartland

Rated R - 1h40
Reviewed 2.10.08

What happens when you throw some actors and comedians in a bus and drive across the country for 30 days? You actually get a decent documentary about life on the road.

In September of 2005, Vince Vaughn hand picked some of his favorite comedians and headed out from California, across the midwest and even made a stop in Madison.  The show was more of a variety, experimental-comedy stage show, with the focus on his stand up comedians.

You’ll recognize some of the names like Peter Billingsly (The “A Christmas Story” kid) and Justin Long (The Apple guy). The rest of the cast are up and coming comedians, but they each deserve recognition.

You see a lot of their stand up routines, but the film goes deeper into the life of a comedian, and the sacrifices they make for stardom. We also see their human side when the crew coincidentally had scheduled a stop in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit. They ended up holding several shows elsewhere, invited displaced Katrina victims and donating proceeds to the relief fund.  It could have been seen as a self serving publicity stunt, but the comedians actions came off as genuine.

While it may serve better as a rental, it was still a film worth watching.
