11/15/07 Young Love
Recently, A friend of mine had been devastated by the break-up with his long-time girlfriend. He came to me seeking comfort. So, him being a guy like myself, I could only give him one piece of advice. I told him to do one thing. Go to the local video store and rent "Swingers".
If you haven't seen the movie, it is a must watch if you break up with your girlfriend. I do not recommend the girl of the relationship watches it. If that is the case, I recommend she rent "Titanic" or "Love Comes Softly". I haven't seen "Love Comes Softly" but I hear that is the movie to watch if you are a girl.
So, back to my advice I gave to my friend. Rent "Swingers", go home, and watch it. Watch it two, three, four times. As many times it takes for it to really soak in. If it still hasn't sunk in and it comes time to return the movie, just go purchase it, and keep watching it over and over until you can recite every word of it. And if you just purchase it, I'm sure it will come in handy again.
Of course, I also gave him some really great advice on women and life. Basically, I told him only time will tell. Time is really the almighty test of love. Time will go by really slowly in the coming days, but be strong and there is light on the horizon.
I knew both sides of the break-up fairly well. They are a couple that were almost perfect together. They both had a quality or two that was undesirable to the other, but for the most part a really good match. I can't even begin to describe how jealous I am of them. With some space from each other, both will come around to realize what's really important and there is always a way. I am reminded of a saying that goes "Love is like sand in your hand. If you hold on to it gently, the sand stays in tact. If you squeeze to hard, the sand trickles out between the fingers."
Sometimes, you just gotta scoop the sand back up and be more careful. Understanding will take it's course and love will find a way.
I'm not a couselor on relationships, but I thought I would share the soft side of Gabe Buch. The subject of this blog is aware that I am using his story to hopefully help others. I hope that this young love works out.
